IstanΠόλις in Print:
Mapping Greek Press Offices in Istanbul
Using Google Maps, this project pins the locations of Greek publishers throughout the city of Istanbul in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
Citizens of Greece in Istanbul Register
This project compiles data from the Citizens of Greece in Istanbul Register which collected information on Greek citizens living in Istanbul. It allows for a dynamic understanding of the Greek community as diasporic and ever fluctuating rather than a stagnant insulated community.
Mapping the Syllogos
This project identifies members of the Greek Literary Society of Constantinople (O Eλληνικός Φιλολογικός Σύλλογος Κωνσταντινουπόλεως) in order to map the Rum intellectual community. We seek to understand the contribution of Rum intellectuals in Istanbul, the Empire, and even across Europe.
Mapping Φιλικὴ Ἑταιρεία
This project maps the origins of the members of Filiki Eteria (Φιλικὴ Ἑταιρεία), translating to Society of Friends, which was a secret society that played a key role in leading the Greek Revolution.
Mapping Paspates Balıklı Hospital Registers
This project visualizes Alexander Paspates' reports from the Greek Hospital of Yedikule (1862) to contribute a greater understanding of the urban contexts of the Rum community -- their working conditions and relationships with poverty, space, and illness.
